Management can be defined commonly, as the process of dealing with or controlling things or people. However this definition almost brings a negative connotation. Management is a good thing however if you have the business mindset of growing your company or maximizing the effectiveness of your team. Management in a necessary component of running a business effectively. Without management a organization would't be able to prosper. So what is it? What is management? The good definition is that management is the process of working with people and resources to accomplish goals that are set forth by the organization. These goals could be new plans or strategies for company growth to new product launches. In order to effectively understand management, one must understand the four functions of management. Planning, Organizing, Leading and Controlling. In my next post this week, I will dive into each of the four functions to provide more detail and clarity on their roles.
So why is understanding management important to you? In order to be a good manager you must be both effective in achieving results for your organization, executing the plans or implementing a strategy as well as being efficient enough to not waste resources such as time or money or people. Great Management helps business grow because they add value.
